The Good Life series helps students understand that the world’s take on "the good life" is not the same as the wonderful plan God has for them. In this series we look at four specific ways that the world teaches as paths to the good life. In response, we introduce the radical path Jesus has laid out. Finally, we wrap up the final three weeks looking at how a personal relationship with Jesus leads to and is the ultimate "good life".

The Good Life Overview
Week 1 Description
Purpose: Introduce the concept of worldviews and the good life.
Overview: What is the good life? How is it achieved? Christians and non-Christians have very different world views that determine the answers to those questions. A worldview is the lens through which someone interprets the world around him. For Christians, our entire understanding of the world and how we are to live in it supposed to be filtered through Jesus, His Word, and the Holy Spirit. The good life, as I define it, is what an individual sees as the ideal way to live life¬–the best possible life that will bring the most happiness, meaning, and purpose.
Key Verses: 1 John 5:19-20; Psalm 119:105; John 14:26
Week 2 Description
Purpose: To contrast the worldview that personal success is the path to the good life
Overview: Though the world may say that the good life is achieved through personal success, the Christian knows that there is no such thing as personal success. The Christian worldview teaches us that success in life is defined by our ability to depend 100% on the power of Jesus working inside us.
Key Verses: 2 Corinthians 12:7-8; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Week 3 Description
Purpose: To contrast the worldview that popular / pleasing external appearance is the path to the good life
Overview: The world teaches that a pleasing or popular external image is the path to the good life. Reality is much different. The more our world focuses on outward appearances, the less “good” life is. God says, “look at the inside. ” His good life requires a complete and total internal makeover.
Key Verses: 1 Samuel 16:7; 1 Peter 3:3-4; Psalm 51:10
Week 4 Description
Purpose: To contrast the worldview that sex is the path to the good life.
Overview: The world tries to “sell” sex as the path to happiness and the good life. God says that sex is a wonderful and beautiful gift that He has given to us–we just need to wait until marriage.
Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Corinthians 6:18-20
Week 5 Description
Purpose: To contrast the worldview that “stuff” leads to the good life.
Overview: The world teaches that “stuff” will bring you happiness the good life. True happiness–the true good life–is found in the Person of Jesus Christ.
Key Verses: Mark 10:17-22; Matthew 6:24
Week 6 Description
Purpose: To introduce the fact that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is both the Way to the good life and the Good Life Himself.
Overview: The world has many different “ways” to achieve the good life. The truth is that there is only One Way and He is Jesus. We must be willing to give up everything we thought was the good life to follow Him. In return, we receive a treasure far greater than anything we could have gotten on our own.
Key Verses: John 14:6; John 15:5; Luke 14:27; Matthew 13:44-46
Week 7 Description
Purpose: To explore how regular communication with Jesus is critical to spiritual growth
Overview: Just like any healthy relationship, our relationship with Jesus requires active communication. We read the Bible and pray to remain connected to Jesus Christ, the living Creator of the universe. This is one of the most important steps on the Way to the good life.
Key Verses: John 15:5-6; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; Colossians 4:2; Philippians 4:6-7 ;2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:105; Matthew 4:4; Hebrews 4:12
Week 8 Description
Purpose: To explore how the Body of Christ working together is necessary for spiritual growth
Overview: So far, in this series we have talked about pursuing the good life as if it was solely an individual pursuit. Over the last couple of weeks we have explored how Jesus is the Way, the path to the Good Life, and the Person in Whom we find that good life as well. This has been communicated in terms of a private, personal relationship between a Christian and Jesus. If the story were to end there, we would be leaving out a critical element of growing in Christ and the good life. That element is the Church.
Key Verses: Romans 12:4-5; Ephesians 4:15-16
