Glow Overview
Lesson 1: Light
Bible: John 1:8-13, Luke 19:1-10
Lesson Description: The Bible uses a lot of metaphors to describe Jesus. Light is one of those metaphors that's inspired dozens of Bible verses and hundreds of songs, but for many of our students, it's a metaphor that doesn't have a ton of meaning.
When we talk about Jesus being light, we're talking about us being lost and trapped in darkness. We don't know which way we're going or which way we should be going until the light of Christ is there to illumine and inform our lives, our decisions, and our choices.
Lesson 2: Messy
Bible: Genesis 1:1-5, I John 1:5-10, John 4:1-26
Lesson Description: As scary as it is, sometimes we've got to be honest about our own contributions to the darkness that is trying to wash out the light. Jesus can light up the parts of our lives that we'd rather keep hidden. To show us the sin that we'd like to keep secret and keep on pretending doesn't exist. The only real way to clean up a mess is to get it out in the open and start working on it.
Lesson 3: Alive
Bible: John 8:12, John 11:1-44.
Lesson Description: This week, we're talking about how the light of Jesus is what gives us the opportunity to truly live the way God wants us to live. The light doesn't just exist to expose and drive out sin but to allow us to fully and truly live God-honoring lives.
Lesson 4: Science
Bible: Romans 6, Colossians 2:18-19
Lesson Description: This week, we're talking about how Christians need a lot more than a one-time exposure to the light of God. We need to consistently reconnect to it. Every surface that reflects light - that's what we want to be - also absorbs some of that light. That means if we're not regularly "collecting" more light, we'll quickly run out of light to share, and the darkness will creep in rather quickly.
Lesson 5: Under a Bushel
Bible: Matthew 5:13-16, Acts 11
Lesson Description: Jesus said, "I am the light of the world." Now He says, "You are the light of the world." Today we're talking about our role in being and reflecting God's light to the world.
Lesson 6: O.P.M.
Bible: John 13:34, Matthew 25, I Corinthians 13.
Lesson Description: We're continuing to talk this week about how we are also called to be the light of the world. Jesus - the true light - lives and works through us, and that means that we need to be glowing and sharing God's love. Today, that means treating other people like they matter.
Lesson 7: Cow
Bible: Matthew 5:13-16, 1Kings 18
Lesson Description: This week, we're talking about how the light of Jesus is what gives us the opportunity to truly live the way God wants us to live. The light doesn't just exist to expose and drive out sin but to allow us to fully and truly live God-honoring lives.
